Getting to know the products in the goop beauty shop is a (very fun) part of our job as goop editors. So, we tend to switch up our rotations regularly, slotting in new launches and turning back to longstanding heroes, experimenting to see how things work for us in different seasons, for different needs, in different combinations.

For years, we envisioned a space where goop Beauty could be experienced in its fullest expression—beyond the bottle. We sketched it. Mood-boarded it. Manifested it, even. A goop facial room. Somewhere to not only shop our beauty favorites, but actually experience them on your skin, in real time. Guided by the hands of someone who gets it. A place where skin care becomes ritual.

Every year, we scour the far corners of the earth to bring you our annual holiday gift guides. Part of that process involves researching and testing the assortment to ensure we’re recommending the best of the best (after all, how can we know for sure the infrared sauna is easy to set up unless we try it ourselves in the office?).

A bell tinkles somewhere beyond the paper lanterns of a quiet Kyoto alley. Inside a softly lit dressing room, a young apprentice geisha—maiko or “dance child”—leans over a lacquered bowl with cool, fragrant water infused with camellia petals and rice bran. She lifts a square of silk cloth from the surface, presses it gently to her cheek, and lets the botanical distillate sink in—a centuries-old ritual meant to calm the skin and prepare it for the layers to come.
